Meat Box Comparison

Meat Box Comparison

Here at Meat in the Box, we’re all about providing quality meat at affordable prices. Our team is always busy preparing and delivering Meat Boxes to the nation but it seems we’re not the only ones.  So, we decided to see how we ‘stack up’ against two other big players in our meat box comparison.

Morrisons Meat Box Comparison

Meat Box Comparison Morrisons

Firstly, we chose the national supermarket chain Morrisons. They’ve recently launched a Family Meat Box, which contains 9 items and costs £45. We’ve listed all products from the Morrisons box and created a Meat in the Box selection matching each product as near as possible. Then, we will compare weight, delivery and overall value.

Weight Comparison

The combined weight of the Morrisons box is 4.849kg and our Meat Box comes in at 8.61kg. That’s 77% extra in meat weight in the Meat in the Box option, as a result it’s a clear win for us on this one!

Delivery

Morrisons does offer a free next day delivery for orders placed before 3 pm. Meat in the Box offers the same FREE next day delivery but with an earlier cut off time of 10am. This is a great service from both but Morrisons does trump us here – the later cut off is certainly something we would like to aim for.

Overall Value

The Morrisons’ option is £5 cheaper than our meat box. However, if we work out the price per kilogram, the extra weight dramatically outweighs this price difference. Therefore, Meat in the Box wins the overall price battle here by a staggering £2.89 per kilo or (31% less).

Muscle Food Meat Box Comparison

Meat Box Comparison Muscle Food

Secondly, we decided to compare Muscle Food’s offering. This online retailer specialises in health and fitness food options and has a few meat hampers available. We’ve opted to compare their £50 Build Your Own Box. This works in a similar way to our meat box but instead, items do have prices and you have to select items accordingly to meet up exactly to the £50 value (not easy). Once again we selected available items and matched these with our options and drew comparisons.

Muscle Food

  • Chicken Breast Fillets – 1.02kg
  • Sirloin Steaks – 340g
  • Extra Lean Steak Burgers – 456g
  • 24 Cumberland Sausages – 792g
  • Extra Lean Diced Chicken Breast – 800g
  • Beef Steak Mince – 800g

  • Minced beef Steak – 800g
  • Rump Steak – 600g
  • Loin Pork Steaks – 1kg
  • Diced Beef Steak – 700g

Weight Comparison

The victor (unsurprisingly) is Meat in the Box, with a total box weight of 8.5kg compared with 6.148kg from Muscle Food. They come out better than Morrisons but we’re still way ahead with 38% more meat weight in our offering.

Delivery

Muscle Food offers a 2 working day delivery if the order is placed before 6am. The cost of this delivery service is £6.99. The next day nationwide delivery before 10 am service for FREE that we at Meat in the Box offer, outshines this in every way.

Overall Value

We managed to get the Muscle Food box up to £49.50. If we then take this along with the delivery costs and calculate the cost per kilogram, again Meat in the Box is the hands down winner. Our option is £2.25 per kilo or 24% less.

      Hi Mark,

We source our meat box products based on quality, price, and welfare standards.

You can always find the country of origin displayed beneath each item within our store. That is to say, we do not hide this information as we want our customers to make an informed decision based on the products we have on offer.

      – Beef is sourced from farms in Staffordshire and across the UK, which are reared on a grass-rich diet.
      – Whole Chickens and Chicken Portions are British
      – Boneless Chicken Fillets are predominantly sourced from UK and Holland.
      – Lamb products are sourced from the UK.
      – The Pork we supply originates from UK and Spain. We have worked in the industry for many years and our Spanish pork loins are the most consistent and tasty meat product we have ever sourced.
      – Our Turkeys and Turkey Breasts are British

In conclusion, you can see that whilst we do offer a broad range of British products, we do source from other parts of the world. Because we know we’re sourcing from reputable farmers and wholesalers and the quality of the products meets our high standards, we stand by our products.

      Many thanks
      Matt

  5. Can you tell me where you get your meat from?

  6. Everything looks very positive but can we know more about the products eg are any organic? is the beef grass or grain fed, are the chickens free range etc

    1. Meat in the Box

      Hi Mike,

      Thank you for your comment.

You can find more information on each product listing and on our faq pages, regarding origin and certifications.

The beef we source is grass-fed, as the vast majority of the beef in the UK is (plentiful supply in the English countryside) and supplemented with silage (fermented grass pulp) in the colder months, when they are under shelter. Our beef is red tractor certified.

Our chicken is not free-range but our whole chickens and chicken portions are red tractor and chicken fillets are certificated by an equivalent European standard IKB KIP.

If there is anything else we can help with, please let us know.
